Happy Birthday Mary Blair!

This week was Mary Blair‘s 103rd birthday and I thought that I should pay her a tribute.

Mary Blair was a concept artist for Disney and worked on classics like Peter Pan, Cinderella and Alice in Wonderland. She has a very distinct style with an amazing sense for colours.

She also designed the disney attraction « It’s a Small World », THE best way to finish a day in Disneyland with friends, screeching and singing along hysterically!

Here’s some of her concept art, I really love her environments, they look simplistic but they are so well designed and thought through.

Here’s my homage. I tried copying her simplistic and cutesy style. Hope you like it!

I haven’t posted in weeks, that’s so bad… But I have some excuses!

First of all, I enrolled in the Chris Oatley academy there are classes, homework and everything. I worked on a piece, but it is not ready yet. I might share it later.

Speaking of pieces that are not ready yet, I’ve been working on new techniques on a new piece, which is taking me forever. I hope I will be able to post it soon.

I was tired of having nothing to post so I thought: why not go back in time and dig up some sketches? Here come the scans!

Sleeping Beauty?

I am addicted to an animation podcast called « Animation addicts » on the Rotoscopers website  (you should definitely check it out!)

Their upcoming episode is about the classic disney movie Sleeping Beauty, which I never fancied much when I was a kid. I didn’t have the VHS, so I must have watched it 2 or 3 times in my life.  I watched it again a few days ago and…

Let’s say, Maleficent isn’t the only dragon in this movie…If you know what I mean!

Aurélie in Wonderland

Welcome to a post in which I will brag about my awesome summer with some photos, but that will eventually also contain a drawing, so stick with me!

A month ago, I spent a few days in french paradise.

I was invited to a really small town near Bordeaux for my friend Aurélie’s birthday. We spent the week-end in the most adorable farm house with the most luxurious garden.

The vineyards, the castles, the fresh air… sometimes I really miss the country! Paris is amazing in some ways, but I guess I will always be a small town girl at heart.

To celebrate Aurélie’s birthday, I decided to draw a birthday card. My very first watercolour painting!

The birthday theme was Flamingos and she had a friend make a flamingo croquet like in disney’s  » Alice In Wonderland ». I thought the flamingo scene from the movie would make a nice card.

Summer in Paris

Had to Publish this before the official end of summer.

Here in Paris, you are going to freeze to death in summer if you don’t happen to catch the sun when it’s out. Sadly, the sidewalks are too small for everyone to walk in the sun.
